Building the Character

For this character I’m trying to build a very specific kind of martial character. Someone who’s good at throwing stuff.

To start, this will be another Human.

Rolling on the tables for characteristics has blessed me today. At first I rolled that this character received an education and for Professions I get Academic - War and Wilderness- Pioneer this fits perfectly. This character really learned the advanced tactics.

I will try to improve this characters Agility as much as possible. Things like Daggers, Darts and Javelins can be used with either Strength or Agility as they have the ‘Finesse’ trait which is going to be important.

For the novice path I will choose one of the variations on the Warrior which is called a Gallant. Instead of the usual free choice - paths normally give improvements to attributes - this specialized path dictates an increase of Agility and Intellect which I don’t mind. It gives the character a Nimble Recovery to heal and move without triggering attacks and finally Finesse Weapon Training to give a boon for using weapons with that trait.

In later levels this path also grants Deadly Accuracy for more damage with finesse weapons, Swift Strike which allows for an additional attack if we roll well, Combat Expertise to either deal more damage on an attack or attack a second target and finally Daring Defense which siginificantly boosts the characters Defense if they don’t wear medium or heavy armor.

The expert path is a surprisingly tough choice. At first I considered Fighter which is just very solid at using any weapons. Then I found a path called Marine which is amazing at using small weapons like daggers, improving their damage, adding damage on top and also granting a boon on the attack. In the end I decide to go with utility though through the Nomad path.

Nomad is all about mobility. The two features it grants are Mobile Assault which granting a boon after moving away from a location and Spring Away which allows for moving after evading a harmful effect with Agility.

This character ended up with a Defense of 20, including light armor which is very impressive. The Nomad path provides a feature on later levels which can give another +5, reaching 25 which is the hard cap on Defense in SotDL.

Summary

Tibby - yes, it’s a nickname and no, they won’t tell you what their real name is - earns their living as a mercenary. Unlike most people in this line of work, they haven’t been brought into fighting as a peasant conscript or by learning under a knight. Instead they studied combat and tactics at an academy. Unexpected, seeing they are just a combatant who is traveling around, working odd jobs and using their weapons to earn their living.

Be it as it may, Tibby is astonishingly agile, talented with a quick fighting style and nearly impossible to hit. A truly frightening opponent. A true master of their craft.

And even though Llynburgh is just one of the many places Tibby has visited on their travels, they are still ready to help deal with the dark forces that loom over the city.
