Planning

The first in line is one of the adventurers, so level 7. That means I get to choose an ancestry, a novice path, an expert path and a master path. Full thing right off the bat.

At first I think about the concept - this character's deal is that he fights against corruption. Maybe with a hint of knighthood or priesthood. So the question is, are there any paths that remove corruption?

There is indeed: A master path called Cenobite fits the bill. It also grants  a bit of soul magic. Neat.

To flesh out the other two paths I just take some basics - for novice I take the standard Priest (of the New God), but switch out its Celestial tradition with Soul. This guy is a priest, but he deviates from the regular tenets to further his own anti-corruption goals. To give him some prowess with weapons and to incorporate all ideas from above I give him the Fighter expert path and choose Fight with Two Weapons and Shield Bash as specializations.

Being a priest grants this character a decent amount of traditions and spells. Fighter adds none and Cenobite only a single one.

I decided to get all 3 traditions available to this character: Life for some healing, Theurgy for some divine support and offence, and (as already mentioned) Soul for some utility and defence. I then take my time figuring out what spell this character will get exactly. The two highlights are the theurgy spell Holy Armaments which conjures a divine sword and a divine shield - perfect for the fighter talents - and the soul spell Velocity which allows for more actions in a turn. Also I note that this character benefits greatly from a high Will score.

Last thing I need is an ancestry and it’s gonna be nothing special, just a regular ol’ Human. Now, let’s get this guy onto the sheet.

Building the character

To start of, being a Human gives a 10 in every attribute (Strength, Agility, Intellect, Will), but I can increase one of them by 1 - let’s up our Will. Also I can reduce a stat by 1 to increase another by 1 once - let’s move a point from Agility to Will.

Our Health, Defense and Perception are identical to their associated attribute.

0 Insanity and 0 Corruption to start with. Or Size is 1.

I also get to speak the Common Tongue and I can either speak second language or get random profession - for this one I go with the extra language: Dark Speech, the language of forbidden knowledge and the corrupt.

Next thing I get are two more profession, but I can choose to instead speak more languages or learn to read the ones I know to speak. I’ll roll for the professions: I get Criminal - Murderer and Academic - Philosophy. This guy has done terrible things in the past and kinda went overboard in his efforts to atone for those things. Academic allows me to read and write one of our languages and I choose Dark Speech.

I will skip equipment. Just note that this guy will have a sword, a shield and some heavy armor in addition to some general adventuring gear, but nothing fancy. Being a priest this guy has a spartan lifestyle.

Last thing each character gets is an Interesting Thing. I roll and this get “A letter of introduction from a powerful and influential person.” Maybe this was his ticket to priesthood and atonement.

For 1st level I look at the Priest novice path. I increase 2 attributes by 1 each (Strength and Will), gain more Health and 1 Power. I get read the Common Tongue and gain a religious Profession (Inquisitor’s Henchman). The meat of this path though is this: I learn magic (Soul, Theurgy and Life traditions as mentioned above) and I get a Shared Recovery to heal me and an ally.

As for spells, I get Overcome Affliction (Soul), Righteous Smite (Theurgy) and Minor Healing (Life).
